The second edition of the forum "Knowing the Azores Sea" will take place at the João José da Graça Public Library and Regional Archive in the city of Horta on July 9 and 10.
This open formal and open meeting between the regional administration and Azorean scientists is organised by the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Secretariats for Science, Technology and Infrastructures and for the Environment and the Sea in partnership with the Provost of the University of the Azores for the Integration of Maritime Affairs.
This initiative was also organised to provide moments of open and inclusive communication between Azorean science and regional administration, and simultaneously reinforce the regional research networks by strengthening ties between scientists working in the archipelago.
This year, the forum's goals are of particular importance as the Maritime Spatial Planning for the Azores is under preparation as well as the implementation of the "Marine Strategy" Framework Directive. In addition to the papers presented by three dozen regional, national and international researchers, the afternoon of July 10 will be dedicated to the discussion and debate on current topics of the Azorean society related the sea and its resources, including the maritime and tourism activities, EU and international policies and new economic opportunities.
The "Knowing the Azores Sea" is an event open to all those who are interested in this subject, being an opportunity to update knowledge on the science developed in the ocean and participate in the discussion of subjects of interest to all Azorean community.
