Labelling of Christmas Trees safeguards forests while maintaining tradition in the Azores
The Government of the Azores promotes, once again, the labelling of natural Christmas trees for sale, assuring consumers that they are from authorised cuts in areas where there are trees in excess.
This measure allows forest owners who request cutting permits for this purpose to have access to the labels without any additional costs, while proceeding with a tree cutting operation that is very important to ensure the future quality of wood and the health status of forests.
The Regional Directorate for Forest Resources safeguards the interests of forest owners but also of buyers. The labelling of trees ensures that they are legal and those forests are managed appropriately.
The labels used on the trees are duly numbered and inviolable so that the origin of trees may be supervised when they are placed for sale.
Hence, the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and the Environment urges buyers to purchase a "Naturally Legal Christmas Tree."
