For the fifth consecutive year, all water supply managing entities have an approved Water Quality Control Plan (PCQA).
The development and implementation of Water Quality Management Plans is mandatory. These plans are drafted and submitted for approval by Managing Entities, including Municipalities, Municipal Services and Municipal Companies in charge of providing water supply to the population.
The Entity for the Regulation of Water and Waste Services (ERSARA) has been the authority responsible for analysing and monitoring the implementation of these plans in the Azores since 2010.
The 19 Managing Authorities responsible for providing water supply in the Azores have submitted their PCQA, which have been approved. This practice has been in force since 2007.
The recently approved plans comprise a series of microbiological and chemical parameters to be analysed in each municipality on a regular basis, thus monitoring the quality of the water supplied to each Azorean house.
This measure should boost the levels of consumer confidence in the water supplied in each municipality and meet the goals established by the Regional Government in this area, particularly the improvement of water quality in the archipelago.
