Producers' organisations may submit applications for financial support to the agricultural sector until March 12
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry announced that producers' organisations in the Azores may submit applications for financial support until March 12 in the areas of agriculture and animal husbandry, animal health promotion and animal welfare under the terms of a resolution from the Council of the Government.
“Applications will be selected according the priority of actions and projects in favour of the development of the sector and the rural world. The process will take into consideration criteria such as the quality and coherence of the action or project, the degree of coverage of the geographical area of operation, the relevance for the provision of services, the importance for the sustainability and economic growth of the areas covered, and the compliance with the resources and capabilities of the proposing entity,” said João Ponte.
The Regional Secretary spoke at the end of a meeting that brought together farmers and the Board of the Agricultural Cooperative of Pilar de Bretanha in the municipality of Ponta Delgada.
João Ponte emphasised that this type of aid granted by the Regional Government intends to support the technical and economic management of farms, while improving farmers' working conditions. Moreover, it is also aimed at promoting food safety, animal health and public health as well as environmental protection, dissemination of agricultural information, genetic improvement, market regulation, and the marketing of regional products.
The Regional Secretary stressed that agricultural associations and cooperatives have been key partners, both in the definition and implementation of the regional strategy and for their contribution to the development of the agricultural sector in the Azores.
