The Government of the Azores will attend, through the Regional Director for Sea Affairs, Frederico Cardigos, the World Ocean Council & Sustainable Ocean Summit, a meeting promoted by the World Ocean Council that starts today and runs until Wednesday in Washington.
For the Regional Secretariat for Natural Resources, the participation of the Regional Government is a key moment to disseminate the importance and potentialities of the Azores Sea as the World Ocean Council & Sustainable Ocean Summit brings together the top members of the ocean business community in the area of maritime planning and exploitation of marine resources, who will discuss new opportunities for a sustainable use of the sea.
This event is mainly addressed at the international ocean business community and, thus, there will be the possibility of promoting the numerous economic development opportunities the Region offers, given the good conditions of its marine environment, the strategic geographic location, the political organisation and existing knowledge.
The Region's openness to foreign investment, particularly in the context of the priority investment areas identified under the Strategy for the Atlantic, will benefit from strategic contacts that might be established during the World Ocean Council & Sustainable Ocean Summit.
One of the sessions featured in this event, which will address the theme "Ocean Policy and Maritime Industry in International Waters," is of particular interest to the Region, taking into account the existence of the Azores Marine Park and the respective governance issues.
