Regional Government guarantees approval of 21 million Euros for agricultural modernisation projects and the installation of 87 young farmers under PRORURAL+
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry stated that the Regional Government has decided to increase the financial allocation for the installation of young farmers and the modernisation of farms under the PRORURAL+ programme, whose applications are currently under analysis. This injection of funds will guarantee the approval of 21 million Euros for farm modernisation projects and the first installation of 87 young farmers, a measure with a very positive impact on the development and future of the agricultural sector.
"With this decision, the Regional Government will be able to approve the immediate installation of 57 young farmers and another 30 shortly as well as 219 modernisation projects of farms. They represent an overall investment of 21 million Euros and an expenditure of 12 million Euros," said João Ponte. He spoke in Ponta Delgada on the sidelines of a meeting with the president of the Azorean Agricultural Federation.
The Secretary for Agriculture stated that the initial allocation of the PRORURAL+ notices in question was not enough for the Regional Government to fund all the projects that had been approved, a situation that is now solved.
"We thus take an important step in the qualification of our farms and the creation of conditions to rejuvenate the sector with the immediate entry of several young farmers," said João Ponte.
For the Regional Secretary, this is a positive decision and has a major impact on the development and future of the sector as it will have better conditions in terms of production and more young farmers, who have the energy and strength to continue the progress of Azorean agriculture.
