The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry, João Ponte, awarded today the contract to the company Albano Vieira S.A. for the repair of Castelo Branco Road on São Miguel, a work that will improve accessibility to about 150 farms.
The contract for the improvement of this road located in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo, with an extension of 1,800 metres, has a budget of 141 thousand Euros. The works begin in the end of this month.
This intervention, which has a 60-day completion period, will improve the accessibility conditions to 40 agricultural entrepreneurs, covering an area of 248 hectares of permanent pasture and 103 hectares of forest. It will also improve the access to Contendas artificial pond.
In addition to the access to farms, this rural road is also of tourist importance as it connects Regional Road no. 1-1 to the central area of the island and other access roads to places of significant scenic beauty.
The work is part of a series of interventions that have been carried out on several islands to improve road safety, the access conditions to farms and, consequently, the increase of farmers' income.
In the previous legislative period, the Government of the Azores invested more than 12 million Euros in the construction and repair of access roads to farms.
