Regional Government invests 387 thousand Euros in agricultural infrastructures on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira
The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry, through IROA, S.A., launched this week public tenders for one work to improve agricultural roads on the island of São Miguel and another for the construction of a reservoir to reinforce water supply on the island of Terceira. They represent a global investment of 387 thousand Euros that will improve farmers' working conditions.
"These are important works towards the continuous development of a strategic sector for the regional economy, such as agriculture, which will enhance the competitiveness of farms and contribute to reducing production costs," said João Ponte. According to him, this type of investment in agricultural infrastructures is also relevant as it enables the sector to better respond to future challenges.
The intervention in Lomba da Cruz agricultural road, covering an extension of about one kilometre, will benefit almost two dozen farms in the parish of Santo António, municipality of Ponta Delgada.
Also, in this municipality, but in the parish of Arrifes, the Government will carry out a contract work to improve the Macela agricultural road, covering an extension of 1.5 kilometres and improving the access to 13 farms in an area of 51 hectares.
Regarding the intervention planned for the island of Terceira, it will include the construction of a metallic reservoir in the hamlet of À Cancela, parish of Biscoitos, with capacity to store 512 cubic meters of water, benefiting 82 farms in an area of 404 hectares.
