Regional Government invests over a million Euros in agricultural roads on São Jorge Island
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry, João Ponte, authorised today the opening of the public tender for the second phase of the intervention in the Longitudinal North rural road located in the municipality of Velas, São Jorge Island. The contract work has an estimated budget of 485 thousand Euros.
The intervention includes the improvement of the pavement and drainage conditions, which will directly benefit 195 hectares of pasture fields and 24 farms.
The first phase of this intervention carried out by the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources in 2016 comprised the improvement of a road section that stretched over 3,300 metres.
The redevelopment of this rural road is very important to the island of São Jorge. This is a crucial route for agricultural activity since it runs across the island in a longitudinal direction.
Regarding accessibility on São Jorge Island, IROA S.A. (Regional Institute of Agrarian Planning) plans to move forward this year with the construction and improvement works in Pau Pique agricultural road within the Agricultural Planning Perimeter of Ribeira Seca/Norte Pequeno. The intervention represents an investment over 550 thousand Euros.
With these works, the Regional Government invests in the improvement of accessibility, road safety and modernisation of infrastructures. Thus, it provides a direct contribution to the competitiveness of regional production and the improvement of working conditions in the agricultural sector.
