The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and the Environment promotes the meeting on the topic "Goals, Priorities and Vulnerabilities of the Azores to Climate Change" in Ponta Delgada next Tuesday, January 19.
This initiative, carried out through the Regional Directorate for the Environment, is the first of several meetings that will be carried out in order to hear and involve public and private actors in the process of preparing the Regional Plan for Climate Change (PRAC).
The Regional Plan for Climate Change is a sectoral land management plan that covers the areas of gas emissions and mitigation, impacts and adaptation.
The implementation of this plan is due to be completed by 2017 and has the support of a consortium of private companies, which also includes experts from the universities of the Azores the Lisbon School of Engineering and CURDS - Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies.
Under the preparatory works of PRAC, there will be quarterly meetings between the consortium, the Regional Director for the Environment and the working group, created by resolution of the Council of the Government, which includes representatives from all business sectors and governmental departments as well as entities such as the Regional Civil Engineering Laboratory.
This first meeting is intended to hear a representative group of interested parties in order to collect important information towards the correct orientation of the work carried out by different teams preparing the PRAC.
