The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry, João Ponte, requested the President of the Azorean Milk and Dairy Centre (CALL) to convene a meeting with all governing bodies that will specifically address the current situation of milk in the Azores.
The mission of CALL is to accompany and take action in the regional milk and dairy sectors. Its governing bodies are represented by the Region, the Azores Agricultural Federation, BEL, INSULAC, CALF, UNILEITE, PRONICOL and Terceira Agricultural Association.
"This meeting takes place at a time when there are important challenges to overcome. It is another opportunity for the promotion of dialogue and coordination of positions with production and industry on dairy products with a view to promoting raw materials, products and development of this sector," said João Ponte.
The Secretary for Agriculture added that "the Regional Government will always have a proactive and dynamic stance in the search for the best solutions that best serve the sector."
This meeting of CALL follows the Regional Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (CRAFDR) held this week on Graciosa. One of the conclusions drawn from the meeting points out to the need for special monitoring of the milk sector in order to boost income and reinforce the importance of agricultural activity in the Region.
