Regional Government to invest another 4.5 million Euros in water supply this legislative term, says João Ponte
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry stated today that the Regional Government will invest 4.5 million Euros more in water supply this legislative term than in the previous one, considering that it is a “clear sign” of the importance of agricultural infrastructures to improve farmers' working conditions. Additionally, it will improve the access to water, either on farms or at supply points, and reinforce the storage capacity of a key element for the development of agriculture in the Azores.
"This increase of public investment clearly reflects the Regional Government's commitment in terms of agricultural infrastructures, namely in water supply, as well as its concerns to provide more and better infrastructures to the sector," said João Ponte. In this regard, he added that, with these investments, the sector will become more competitive and better prepared to face challenges.
The Secretary for Agriculture spoke in Sete Cidades, São Miguel Island, at the signing ceremony of the contract works for the construction of a metallic reservoir in Sete Cidades and a hydropressor station in Lagoa Rasa lake by IROA S.A., representing a global investment of 200 thousand Euros in the municipality of Ponta Delgada.
"These are another two good examples of the sector's effort to ensure the regular supply of water to agriculture that has been carried out in coordination and cooperation with farmers, agricultural organisations and municipalities," highlighted João Ponte.
