Regional Government to launch tender for the improvement of Queimada Rural Road in Furnas
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry revealed that the Government will publish next week the opening notice regarding the launch of a public tender for the works to improve Queimada Rural Road in Furnas, São Miguel Island. The contract represents an investment of more than 600 thousand Euros.
João Ponte attended the presentation of the project at premises of Furnas Parish Council last Tuesday. The government stressed that it is a matter of fulfilling a commitment made in March, but also of solving "a relevant issue in terms of rainwater drainage," which currently affect this village in case of bad weather.
This contract work provides for concrete paving and the implementation of a drainage system, covering an extension of about 1,200 metres.
João Ponte expects that the contract work will begin by the end of the year. It will have an estimated completion period between six and seven months.
This intervention is of significant importance for agricultural activity on São Miguel Island, improving the access to about twenty farms in an area of 80 hectares, of which 10 correspond to forest area and 70 to agricultural area.
