Regional Government's investment in agricultural infrastructures benefits 2,330 farms
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and the Environment revealed today that the Regional Government's investment over 5.7 million Euros in roads, water supply and electrification of farms already benefited 2,330 farms located in the Region's Agricultural Planning Perimeters (POA).
Luís Neto Viveiros spoke on the sidelines of the presentation and visit to the works of the Jorge Nunes Agricultural Road located in Santa Cruz/Guadalupe Agricultural Planning Perimeter. The work was awarded to the company Domusplanet for the price of 400 thousand Euros.
According to the Regional Secretary, this work is of significant importance for Graciosa, fulfilling the programme and the commitments made by the Government on this island.
The project comprises an intervention in a section over 1,000 metres and is intended to supply water to farms. It includes a pumping station, a pumping main and a reservoir with capacity for 250 m3.
At the meeting attended by the associations of Graciosa farmers and young farmers, the Secretary for Agriculture also announced the opening procedure for the implementation of the project will connect Canada das Relheiras to the Regional Road.
In addition to this investment carried out by IROA (Regional Institute of Agricultural Planning) in the Region's Agricultural Planning Perimeters, the Azorean Government also launched the intervention by direct administration or tender in the rural roads under the management of Forest Resources services.
The focus on agricultural and rural infrastructures is a tool for the promotion of development in rural areas, which is essential to the competitiveness of regional production.
The construction and improvement of these infrastructures represent the Government's commitment and contribute to the reduction of operating costs and the impact of the ecological footprint. Furthermore, it also safeguards the safety of agricultural workers.
