The São Miguel Natural Park promotes the 1st Sete Cidades Green Triathlon next Sunday, October 18, under the Open Park Programme. This is an open relay competition that already has two dozen registered teams.
The event, which is supported by more than a dozen partners, will be carried out by teams of four members, consisting of three sports, including cycling (1 member), track and field (1 member) and canoeing (2 members).
The event aims to publicise the Protected Landscape Area of Sete Cidades, one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal, raise awareness for the importance of a society with more environmentally friendly and sustainable habits, and promote sport and physical health.
Participation is open to all interested parties aged 16 and over; the registration period ends Friday.
The rules and the registration form are available at http://parquesnaturais.azores.gov.pt/pt/smiguel.
The Open Park is a programme promoted by the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and the Environment, which is responsible for all the activities directed to communities and visitors in areas of the Region's natural parks.
Managed by the Regional Directorate for the Environment and Azorina, in addition to the teams of Natural Parks, this programme involves dozens of institutional and private partners as well as non-governmental organisations in the organisation of hundreds of initiatives that cover each year thousands of participants of all ages and all over the archipelago.
