The Regional Secretariat for the Environment and the Sea and the Agencia de Protección del Medio Urbano y Natural Canary have submitted an application for the European project known a SIGESTEIN, which was approved in June 2009 under the transnational cooperation programme MAC PCT 2009-2013 . In the Azores, this project includes the creation of a web page of regional reference, designated as WASTE website. This tool will allow an easier access to updated information to various audiences, enabling the communication among various entities involved in the life cycle of waste.
It is essential to listen to the needs/suggestions/comments so that the Waste website may fully meet its goals and serve public and private entities, and citizens in general.
In this context, several public hearings have taken place, such as the first session to present the project, held at Faial Botanical Garden on 15 December 2009. The presentation of the contents and functionalities of the Waste website took place at the same place on November 23, 2010. This website contains a diversity of spaces addressed at specific audiences: waste management operators, waste producers, entities responsible for environmental education and promotion activities, management companies, among others.
Also in 2010, a form was provided to register suggestions from any citizen/company for this purpose, being available at http://servicos.sram.azores.gov.pt/doit/.
In 2011, the Waste website will become a reality available to all. Further information about the project may be consulted at http://www.residuos-azores.com.
