The Government of the Azores has already started the contract work for construction of the water supply system for livestock and a reservoir with a capacity of 100 m3 in Caminho da Soca in the village of Fenais da Ajuda, municipality of Ribeira Grande. The investment will benefit 25 farms.
This contract work, included in the Regional Public Works Charter, will support the activities of farmers in the villages of Fenais da Ajuda and Lomba de S. Pedro; both are located in the Agricultural Planning Perimeter of the Central Zone of São Miguel Island.
The project is intended to provide a better use of excess water from an existing water collection point, through the improvement of a retention tank that will channel the water, through pipes, to a new reservoir.
The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Environment, through IROA, has already awarded several contract works that will increase the storage capacity by 2,640 m3, 20 kilometres of water pipes and 250 branches.
The construction and improvement of agricultural roads as well as of water and power supply systems for farms contributes to the competitiveness of the regional production by reducing operating costs and improving the working conditions of farmers.
