Government maintains its position on the production of genetically modified organisms in the Region
The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry considers that the Azores should not continue to allow the production of genetically modified organisms as long as the scientific community does not adopt a unanimous position on this matter.
Noé Rodrigues spoke at the end of a hearing with the Committee on Economic Affair of the Regional Assembly, conveying his belief that "this is the position that the best protects the Azores and Azorean agriculture."
However, the government official acknowledges that the Region cannot be indifferent to this discussion and must pay attention to the evolution of scientific research in this field since "laws are not made for eternity."
