The Government of the Azores has granted the Regional Wine Commission of the Azores (CVRAçores) a financial support of 27,000 Euros “in order to support its capacity to promote and disseminate the quality of regional wine products at various levels.”
Founded on September 5, 1995 the CVRAçores is a non-profit private association which aims to ensure the authenticity and quality of wines from the protected geographical designation of “Biscoitos,” “Pico” and the “Regional Açores” wine.
With the awarding of this support, granted by ordinance issued by the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry, the Government intends to enhance the capacity of CVRAçores in the promotion and dissemination of Azorean wines “either in the agricultural and commercial promotion or in other areas, including infrastructures and provision of specialised technical assistance.”
In the ordinance published in the Official Journal on Monday, Noé Rodrigues justified the governmental support awarded to this entity given the importance of the activity developed by CvRAçores in the preparation of the regional wine register and its intervention in the certification process of “Vinhos de Qualidade” and “Regional dos Açores.”
In addition to mentioning the technical and legal support provided by that commission to Azorean winemakers, the Regional Secretary also reminded that CVRAçores plays an important “role in ensuring the prestige of the protected geographical designation in the regional, national and foreign market, fighting against its improper use.”
