The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry promotes a Forestry Awareness Raising session on October 26 at 9:30 PM with the participation of six classes from the Covoada School of the Arrifes Basic Education School.
This session will count on the participation of the technical staff from the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources, six teachers from the aforementioned school and about 120 children, who will attend a presentation on the theme "Endemic Plants." In addition, each student will participate in the transplantation of a Heather plant (Erica azorica) to a vase made from reused plastic water bottles decorated by students.
At the end of the activity, the School will receive a collection of endemic plants for display on the school premises.
This will be another education and awareness raising activity promoted by the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Forestry in order to motivate an increasing number of youngsters to the maintenance and preservation of endemic forest under the celebrations of International Year of Forests.
The plants were bred at the nursery of the Regional Directorate for Forest Resources, respecting biodiversity.
