The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry will publish in coming days the Ordinance regulating the allocation of extraordinary aid for recovering the agricultural production potential or the compensation for material losses in the farms affected by the bad weather that hit the Region in 2012.
At the end of a meeting with the Director of São Miguel Agricultural Association, the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry revealed that "after a survey carried out by the authorities, in conjunction with producers' organisations, it was concluded that over 570 hectares of agricultural production were affected by bad weather and nearly 1000 farmers. The total loss is estimated at 1.5 million Euros."
Of the various productions affected by the passage of Tropical Storm "Gordon," Noé Rodrigues stressed maize production on São Miguel and cantaloupe production on Santa Maria. The bad weather that hit the Azores in the months of March and April also affected maize crops on São Miguel and Graciosa cantaloupe.
