LABJOVEM Competition is a project promoted by the Government, through the Regional Directorate for Youth and organised by the Burra de Milho Cultural Association. This initiative aims to encourage and promote young creators from different artistic fields, serving as a platform to a whole new generation of Azorean artists.
Integrated in the Government's strategy to promote and encourage the creativity of young creators, LABJOVEM is also intended to be a means of enhancing the visibility of the works developed by this target audience.
The 3rd edition of the competition, presented as the edition of consolidation, comprises the following areas: Architecture, Performing Arts, Fine Arts, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Photography, Illustration and Comics, Literature, Music and Video.
A total 210 projects from 180 participants were submitted under this edition.
Furthermore, the 3rd edition of LABJOVEM registered a predominance of applications submitted in the areas of Photography, Literature, Music and Video.
There was also an increase in the number of projects submitted by Azorean youngsters living in Mainland Portugal (13 projects) compared to the 2009 edition (4 projects).
With regard to projects from outside the Azores, there are seven applications from the United States of America, five from Canada and one from Belgium.
After being evaluated by the jury from the areas in competition, the selected projects will be presented in the Azores under the Regional Exhibition to be held next year. LABJOVEM Exhibition is an itinerant programme intended to continuously disseminate the work developed by young creators.
