The programme of 25th Academic Week was presented at the University of the Azores in Ponta Delgada on Thursday. The activities under the Academic Week will take place at the "Pavilhão do Mar" from April 20 to 28.
During the presentation, the Regional Director for Youth, Bruno Pacheco, highlighted the spirit of leadership and initiative that the Academic Association of the University of the Azores (AAUA) has shown over the years, reflecting the entrepreneurial leadership capacity of an association led by young students.
Bruno Pacheco said that the Government of the Azores considers the Academic Week as an initiative that brings something different to the city of Ponta Delgada and to the Azores, but above all it "is an opportunity for youngsters to demonstrate that they are able to lead projects of a certain relevance, mobilising a considerable number of people."
The Regional Director launched, once again, an appeal to young students so that they may go further and not be limited to the organisation of the Academic Week. He also urged "the AAUA to continue to play an active role in society through the promotion of other social responsibility initiatives, such as the involvement in volunteer projects or the definition of active participation in some public youth policies."
The 25th Academic Week will feature the participation of some big names of the Portuguese music scene, such as Quim Barreiros and Mind the Gap.
This year's Academic Week also features several regional bands: Urkesta Filarmoka, Rock N 'Kovers, Ficha Tripla, Lado Lunar and Lulumonde are some of the bands to perform at Pavilhão do Mar.
The Academic Week will open with the traditional Ball to be held at Solar da Graça.
The "Bênção das Pastas" Mass (Blessing of Folders) and the Monumental Serenata, featuring the Fado Group of the University of the Azores, will take place on April 22.
The "Queima das Fitas" (burning of the ribbons) and the "Sarau Académico" (academic social gathering), featuring the local University Tunas, will be held on April 25.
