Azores to host for the first time final phase of National Street Football Tournament
The Regional Director for Youth announced today that the final phase of the National Street Football Tournament will be held in Horta between October 22 and 26, noting that this is the first time that the final phase of this competition is hosted by the Azores.
"After the Regional Street Football Tournament, which takes place in Ponta Delgada between June 5 and 7, the 15th National Tournament final will be held for the first time in the Azores," said Lúcio Rodrigues, who spoke at the presentation of the event in Horta.
"The final phase of the National Street Football Tournament will involve the participation of 300 young people from various districts of the country and from both Autonomous Regions, besides two guest teams from Mexico and England," said Lúcio Rodrigues.
The Regional Director for Youth highlighted the importance of holding national events that promote the Region and contribute to the Azorean economy, adding that the initiative, which aims to involve the entire community of Faial Island, "will be a major celebration of active and inclusive sports."
"We intend that all young people to recognise that qualification and civic participation are important so that everyone can feel an integral part of our society," said Lúcio Rodrigues.
The CAIS association will be in charge of organising the National Street Football Tournament in partnership with the Regional Government, through the Regional Directorate for Youth, and the City Council of Horta.
The "Street Football" project promotes practice of sports as an innovative intervention strategy in the promotion of social inclusion.
"This initiative aims to be a training tool in the development of personal and social skills. Besides the practice of football, it includes informal dynamic activities aimed at developing personal and social skills to mitigate the risk of social exclusion of our young people," said the Regional Director.
