The Regional Director for Youth highlighted on Tuesday the importance of the project "Mathematics Summer School - Five Days, Five Themes," stressing that this initiative involves "a strong educational, training, recreational, inclusive, social and innovative component."
Speaking at the press conference for presentation of this initiative at the University of the Azores in Ponta Delgada, Pilar Damião stated that the Mathematics Summer School "will undoubtedly provide learning experiences and promote the psycho-pedagogical and social development" of students."
Pilar Damião also stressed that this project "counts on the full collaboration and encouragement of the Regional Directorate for Youth (DRJ), either through the "Entra em Campo" Programme or through the provision of all means of dissemination and information available."
Furthermore, the Regional Director also noted that this is an initiative whose purpose is in line with the goals of DRJ in the promotion of holiday camps and the involvement of youngsters in various initiatives "as it provides new group experiences and the exchange of these experiences as well as the knowledge on a physical, social and cultural environment that is different from their usual environment."
The "Mathematics Summer School - Five Days, Five Themes," promoted by the Department of Mathematics of the University of the Azores, will be held from July 8 to 12, being targeted at students who attended Secondary School in the school year 2012/2013.
This initiative also intends to promote the fundamental role of Mathematics in human culture, not only in the resolution of fundamental issues concerning our planet, but also in everyday life.
