Youngster from São Jorge to represent the Azores at the Summer University of the Assembly of European Regions
The Azores, through the Regional Directorate for Youth, will participate in the Summer University of the Assembly of European Regions (AER), which begins Sunday in Serbia. This year's edition will be held under the theme "Multicultural, Multiethnic and Multilingual Regions - Regional Diversity for Socio-economic Growth."
A native of São Jorge Island will represent the Azores in the workshop to be held under the theme "The Azores; a region, different islands, different cultures, one people" to take place on August 19.
Ana Dias da Rosa, who represents the Azores for the second time at the Summer University of AER, has been developing educational programmes and working with indigenous communities in a non-governmental organisation in Panama. She has also engaged in volunteering activities in the areas of education, environmental preservation and social work in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The 2014 Summer University of AER begins Sunday, August 17, and will run for a week in the autonomous province of Vojvodina. This initiative will gather 120 participants, who will take part in field trips and workshops, and attend lectures.
The Summer University of the Assembly of European Regions was held for the first time in the Azores in the city of Ponta Delgada in 2012. It gathered over 130 participants who debated "The role of creative industries in the promotion of employment and growth in European Regions."
