The Azorean Government, through the Regional Directorate for Youth, organised on January 5 another session of the "Youth Forum" in partnership with Youth Association of Povoação. The session, held at the Association's headquarters, addressed the subject of "Local Development."
The focus on investments that bring added value, such as the case of the pedestrian trails in that municipality, was one of the topics discussed at this meeting of youngsters.
"Youth Forum" is a living space promoting social intervention, innovation and creativity where youngsters may bring to society different structures and views regarding the management of relations and resources.
Dialogue and proximity, such as the promotion of a culture of participation, are the main goals supporting the organisation of this "Youth Forum," which addressed several issues. The 2010 and 2011 editions, with almost 40 sessions, were attended by 650 youngsters aged between 14 and 35 years.
The sessions were held on several Azorean islands in partnership with several entities, mobilising youth, cultural and other local institutions.
The "Youth Forum" initiative aims to promote participation; encourage and recognise new forms of participation; boost local youth participation; ensure equal opportunities for all youngsters in the participation of collective projects; recognise, reinforce and establish a space for dialogue between youngsters, their associations and the Regional Public Administration.
These youth debate sessions are part of a process intended to involve Azorean youngsters in a communication platform designed to promote a structured dialogue in addition to acknowledging the social and institutional force representing Azorean youth.
To achieve this goal, it is essential to encourage networking and the commitment of all youngsters and public authorities in the promotion of diversity as a model of coexistence, the enhancement of the role played by youth associations and the creation of a culture of participation.
