The Regional Directorate for Youth in partnership with the Azores Youth Hostels started today a campaign to promote and disseminate Youth Tourism in the Azores.
The campaign was presented by several classes from Laranjeiras Secondary School and was mainly focused on the main points of interest in the Archipelago as well as on leisure and adventure activities available for youngsters on their trips to the different islands.
This initiative aims to promote mobility between islands and provide youngsters with a better knowledge on the Archipelago of the Azores. Moreover, it is also intended to demonstrate that "youth mobility is not just based on festivals, but also on other forms of leisure that each island has to offer according to its cultural characteristics," stated the Regional Director for Youth.
Pilar Damião de Medeiros spoke to journalists on the sidelines of the event, stressing that the campaign to promote and disseminate Youth Tourism in the Azores goes beyond online platforms. In this context, the government official considers that "a face-to-face dissemination promotes a close relation with youngsters."
The promotional event held today featured the presentation of the five Youth Hostels in the Azores (S. Miguel, Terceira, Pico, S. Jorge and Santa Maria) as well as the Interjovem Card, an initiative promoted by the Regional Card that allows youngsters to travel at lower fares and even offers discounts on a network of 300 partners throughout the archipelago.
This initiative will be presented at all secondary schools in the Region and at the University of the Archipelago.
