Isabel Rodrigues praises role of scouts in the civic education of Azorean children and youth
The Regional Assistant Secretary of the Presidency for Parliamentary Affairs praised the work carried out by scouts, considering that the scouting movement promotes "human values" and instils in children and young people the importance sharing and serving others.
According to Isabel Rodrigues, the promotion of these values will make children and young people "more participative citizens, more active citizens and, above all, more supportive citizens."
The Regional Secretary spoke at the closing ceremony of the 6th ACARAL - Cub Scout Camping, promoted by the National Scouts Association (CNE-Açores) on Praia Formosa (beach), Santa Maria Island. The event gathered children aged between 6 and 10 years and accompanying adults, involving a total of 500 participants from seven islands of the archipelago.
Isabel Rodrigues witnessed the effort that involved the entire organisation. This was all possible "because they were all moved by a dream, which is the one that brought scouting to the Azores nine decades ago."
The Regional Secretary also praised the work carried out by scout groups in the places that are far away from the main urban centres, "providing children and young people with learning experiences that would probably not be possible without these groups."
Isabel Rodrigues left a message to all participants in the 6th ACARAL, encouraging children to take with them the experiences they lived there so that "you may keep them in your heart and never forget, throughout your lives, what you have learned in your groups because, one day, you will pass it on to the generations to come and they will certainly thank you for that."
