Regional Government welcomes Azorean students who won the national phase of Euroschool contest
The Regional Assistant Secretaries of the Presidency for Parliamentary Affairs, Berto Messias, and for External Relations, Rui Bettencourt, congratulated the students from São Roque do Pico Basic Education and Secondary School, Carlota Ávila and Inês Ponte, as well as teacher José Costa for their victory in the national phase of Euroschool contest.
Both government officials have expressed their satisfaction with this achievement. They highlighted the preparation and determination of these students, who already showed signs of an excellent representation of the Azores in the national phase, when they met with them and the teachers during the Regional Government's statutory visit to Pico island in April.
This victory is of particular importance given that the national session, held at the National Assembly, involved the participation of teams from 20 schools across the country.
Following this victory, the São Roque do Pico Basic Education and Secondary School will win a trip to Strasbourg for 30 students, who will have the opportunity to represent Portugal and become acquainted with the premises of the European Parliament on the spot.
The Euroschool competition is organised nationwide by the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ) and the European Parliament Information Office in Portugal. It also involves the participation of the National Assembly as well as of the Azorean Parliament and the Regional Directorate for Youth.
After winning the Euroschool Contest at regional and national level, Carlota Ávila and Inês Ponte will represent Portugal at the European Parliament session in Strasbourg, which will also bring together 500 students from various Member States of the European Union.
