The 13th General Assembly of the World Council of Houses of the Azores takes place between September 23 and 26. The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for Communities, supports this initiative which will be attended by twelve houses of the Azores located in Portugal (Lisbon, North Region, Algarve); Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul); USA (New England, Hilmar) and Canada (Quebec, Ontario, Winnipeg).
This meeting will include the delivery of the Medal of Merit of the World Council to the President of the Government of the Azores, Carlos Cesar, on September 24 as well as the delivery of the medal to the distinguished Collective Entity – the Santa Cruz da Graciosa Town Hall and the distinction of the Azorean Quality Product – the Pedras Brancas wine. The General Assembly of the Houses of the Azores meets annually to promote the debate on the current dynamics and challenges, the healthy exchange of experiences and the strengthening of relations between the Houses of the Azores and the communities where they are integrated, Moreover, this event also aims make participants better acquainted with the Azorean reality, allowing them to disseminate new ideas and renewed goals to our communities.
Founded in Horta in 1997, the World Council of the Houses of the Azores intends to gather the Azorean communities and to make the Azores, the Azoreans and their culture known to the populations of their respective areas of influence.
