The Secretary of the Presidency, André Bradford, will chair the 3rd Meeting of Returned Emigrants of the Azores on behalf of the President of the Government. The event will take place by the Marina of Horta on Friday at 11 AM.
This initiative, organised by the Regional Directorate for Communities for the third consecutive year, aims to highlight the role of the Azorean diaspora in the external promotion of the Regions as well as to pay tribute to the growing number of emigrants that have returned to the Azores.
In recent years, the Azores have registered an increase in the number of emigrants returning to their homeland either definitively or temporarily; in the latter case, emigrants spend seasons in the communities alternating with seasons in the Azores. The search for the Region's quality of life and the desire for being closer to their land of origin, culture and traditions are main reasons that have contributed to this trend.
The programme of the meeting, which will be attended by 200 people, includes a lunch and several musical performances.
