The Government of the Azores in partnership with the House of the Azores of Winnipeg promotes the 6th International Conference on Holy Spirit Festivities in this Canadian city from June 11 to 15.
The Holy Spirit worship is the manifestation of the religious and cultural nature that best defines "Azoreanity" and the Azorean people. It has provided an important contribution to the strengthening of relations between the Region and its Diaspora.
Held every two years, the event is primarily intended to promote the debate on the evolution of this celebration in several countries, through the participation of researchers from the Azores and the Azorean communities from Brazil, Bermuda, USA and Canada.
The event, held for the first time in Canada, also aims to improve the knowledge and preserve this centuries-old manifestation of Azorean cultural identity, either in the archipelago or in societies where the Azorean communities reside.
The sixth edition of this conference will privilege the debate of ideas and the dialogue among participants, with special emphasis on the evolution of the Holy Spirit worship throughout the years and the factors that have led to its current situation. The event will also continue the works developed in the previous editions, which were held in Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), California (USA) and twice on Terceira (Azores).
The 6th International Conference on Holy Spirit Festivities is addressed at all members of Holy Spirit brotherhoods, scholars and experts on this subject as well as at all those who are interested in knowing more about this tradition.
