Houses of the Azores have developed "dynamic and unifying role of 'Azoreanity' overseas"
The Regional Director for Communities defended that the Houses of the Azores around the world have developed a "dynamic and unifying role of 'Azoreanity' overseas."
Paulo Teves participated in the celebration session of the 33rd anniversary of the House of the Azores of the North Region in the city of Porto. The government official praised the work developed by this institution for over three decades among the Azorean community residing in the North of Portugal as well as "the reach of its action in the promotion of citizenship, integration and preservation of the Azorean cultural identity."
The Regional Director for Communities also stressed that the House of the Azores of the North Region "has contributed to the projection of the islands among the northern communities of Portugal" in various areas, including the exchange of business and cultural missions. Paulo Teves also highlighted the effort undertaken by this institution and its leader "in the support provided to the Azoreans that need to use the National Health Service from the city of Porto and to the Azorean students studying in Northern Portugal."
"Thus, the existence of the Houses of the Azores reinforces our autonomy and identity as well as our presence in the world to the extent that they reflect our way of being and living," mentioned the Regional Director for Communities.
The government official added that "the pride of being Azorean travels beyond oceans due to the spirit of solidarity, courage and integrity of a people that, despite living thousands of miles away from their homeland, insists in brining the name of the Azores further."
The House of the Azores of the "North Region" was created on March 6, 1980 and is headquartered in the city of Porto. In 2013, this institution took over the presidency of the World Council of Houses of the Azores.
