The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for Communities, will promote the initiative “Azorean Christmas Basket” this year.
This initiative aims to support Azorean emigrants residing in the provinces of Ontario and Québec in Canada as well as in the state of New England (United States of America) that are facing difficulties with the awarding of basket containing Azorean products for the holiday season.
In order to implement this project, the Regional Directorate for Communities counts on the support of the House of the Azores of Ontario, Abrigo Centre and the Portuguese Support Services for Quality Living in the province of Ontario; the House of the Azores of Québec and the Mission Sainte-Croix in the province of Québec.
In the United States, the Government has established partnerships with the House of the Azores of New England, the Immigrants Assistance Centre, Ser-Jobs for Progress and the Catholic Social Services and MAPS.
The baskets will be delivered to the Azorean families this week. The Coordinator of the Office of Emigration and Returns of the Regional Directorate for Communities, Paulo Teves, who will attend the delivery of the baskets as well as the press conference with the partners involved in this project to take place at the House of the Azores of Ontario on December 21 at 7:30 PM.
With this initiative, the Government of the Azores aims to promote the spirit of solidarity among all Azoreans by bring both sides of the Atlantic closer, thus, contributing to a more warming and familiar holiday season.
