The Regional Government promotes this year the second edition of the Portuguese Language Courses for Immigrants. Training entities should submit their application until March 31.
Applications may be submitted by public and private entities or cooperatives, including local authorities, companies, business associations, unions and local, regional or national associations, as well as by public schools. This initiative is regulated by Ordinance no.49/2012 of April 27.
The Portuguese Language Courses for Immigrants are an initiative developed by the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorates for Communities and Education, and will be taught after working hours.
The organisation of these courses aims to promote the full integration of immigrants residing in the Region by improving their language skills, which contributes their professional and personal fulfilment.
The successful completion of the 150-hour course allows immigrants to comply with the requirements for the acquisition of nationality, permanent residence or the authorisation for long-term residence in regard to the assessment exams of Portuguese Language.
In the first edition two courses were held on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira in 2013. Jointly organised by CRESAÇOR - Regional Cooperative for Solidarity Economy on São Miguel and AIPA - Azores Immigrant Association, these courses were attended 40 participants from Pakistan, Romania, Ukraine, Lithuania, Bangladesh, China, India, United States, Cape Verde and Guinea-Business.
