The Bermuda Meeting, which took place in April, 2004, was an invitation of the President of the Regional Government of the Azores to the representatives of the Azorean Community in Bermuda.
This meeting, organized by the Regional Department for the Communities together with the Regional Government Presidency, had the objective of evaluating the present situation of the Portuguese School and the Teaching of the Portuguese Language in an area characterized by the return of the Azorean emigrants to their homeland.
Another objective was to listen to the representatives of the community and to the respective organizations regarding their main concerns, and reflect upon the maintenance of the Azorean cultural manifestations and the bonds which gather the Azorean emigrants residing in Bermuda to their homeland.
During the meeting, the Regional Department for the Communities and Vasco da Gama Club signed a protocol aiming at the support to the Portuguese School of Bermuda, attended nowadays by 70 students of Azorean origin.
