The Regional Department for the Communities in partnership with the Regional Department for Aid and Social Security organized the first Meeting of Social Service Organizations in Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira Island, in October 2001.

During this event, the participants talked about the social problems faced by the Azorean Communities residing in the Azores, the United States and in Canada. This meeting allowed the social organizations to deepen their knowledge and to share their experiences, as well as to define ways of interchange between the Azores and the Communities within the several areas of social service.
