Azores participate in the 31th General Assembly of the Islands Commission of CPMR
The Regional Under Secretary for European Affairs and External Cooperation, Rodrigo Oliveira, will participate in the 31st General Assembly of the Islands Commission of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) which will be held in Kuressaare in Estonia on May 19 and 20.
Rodrigo Oliveira will deliver a speech, on behalf of the President of the Government, Carlos César, at the opening session of the General Assembly, held under the theme “European Solidarity: what it means for the islands.” The event will be attended by representatives of several European island regions and European institutions.
One should recall that in May 2010 Carlos César was elected President of the Islands Commission, a geographical commission of CPMR that congregates the governments of European 23 island regions from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
The works of the 31st General Assembly of the Islands Commission of CPMR will take place in Saaremaa, the largest island of Estonia and of the Moonsund Archipelago in Baltic Sea, with a population of about 40,000 inhabitants, of whom 16,000 live in the largest city, Kuressaare.
