The Government of the Azores will promote the visit of a group of students from Corvo Island to Brussels, where they will take part in an educational trip on the European Union.
Students Diogo Vieira, Flávio Freitas and Rui Pimentel from Mouzinho da Silveira Basic and Secondary School, who will be accompanied by teacher Manuel Duarte, will have the opportunity of visiting various EU institutions and bodies headquartered in Brussels, including the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the European Union, the EU Council and Parliament, the Committee of Regions and the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe.
The members of the "Eurocorvinos" team, from the smallest island of the Azores, were the big winners of the contest "Europe Quiz: the Azores and the European Union," an initiative promoted under the celebrations of Europe Day that involved the participation of youngsters and teams from across the archipelago.
Promoted by the Government of the Azores, through the Cabinet of the Regional Under Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations, this initiative took place at Lagoa Secondary School on May 9. The event involved the participation of two-hundred and fifty students and the teams selected from the multimedia contest "European Citizenship: An Azorean Perspective."
The prize awarded to the "Eurocorvinos" team consists in a field trip to Brussels. This prize is intended to complement the study and the information acquired by students either in a school context or under the contests promoted by the Azorean Government. It provides students with the opportunity of knowing the most important places and institutions in Brussels with the aim of instilling feelings of belonging among Azorean youngsters and promoting their participation in the European Union.
