Rodrigo Oliveira highlights role of the University of the Azores in the external projection and promotion of the Region
The Regional Under Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations stressed in Ponta Delgada the role played by the University of the Azores in the "external promotion of the Region" as well as its contribution to the "attractiveness of the archipelago for the organisation of international events."
Rodrigo Oliveira stressed that the University of the Azores "has been a key pillar in the development process of the Region over the last 40 years, through the scientific work" conducted on its three campuses: Ponta Delgada, Horta and Angra do Heroísmo. This institution has a relevant role in the provision of "higher education to Azorean students as well as in the attraction of students and young people from all over the country."
The Regional Under Secretary spoke on the sidelines of the opening session of the 3rd Annual International Interdisciplinary Conference - AIIC 2015. According to him, the Azorean university is a prime location for the organisation of international events, seminars and conferences. "This is a very important aspect, especially at a time when the Azores are going through a development phase in tourism."
"The message I wanted to leave here was the Regional Government's recognition of the work done by the University of the Azores in the external projection of the archipelago as well as in the organisation of international events," said the government official.
Rodrigo Oliveira added that "the Azores, either for their geographical location or for the connections they have with Europe and the United States, are the ideal place to carry out these type of events", stressing that the Azorean university has also been "a key partner in this area."
