Rodrigo Oliveira participates in the meeting of the Bureau of the Committee of the Regions in Luxembourg
The Regional Under Secretary of the Presidency for External Relations participates in the extraordinary meeting of the Bureau of the Committee of the Regions to take place next Wednesday in Luxembourg, where the topic of territorial cooperation in Europe will be under discussion.
Rodrigo Oliveira will take part in this meeting on behalf of the President of the Government, Vasco Cordeiro, as Vice-President of the Committee of the Regions, a position to which he was elected in a voting held in June at the 112th plenary session of this body.
The Bureau of the Committee of the Regions is made up of the president and vice-presidents, the coordinators of the national delegations as well as of the presidents of the committees and the political groups of the Committee of the Regions. It is responsible for creating political programme, overseeing its implementation and coordinating the works of the plenary meetings and commissions.
This body usually meets before each plenary session. It also meets extraordinarily in the Member State that holds the Presidency of the European Union, which is the case of the meeting to be held Wednesday in the contexto of the Luxembourg Presidency. In addition to the statutory agenda, the meeting will address territorial cooperation in Europe.
The Committee of the Regions is an advisory body of the European Union institutions that debates and issues opinions on EU political matters and proposed legislation in areas regarding the exercise of local and regional power in Europe.
