Craig C. Mello should be an inspiring example for all, says Vasco Cordeiro
The Regional Secretary for the Economy stated on Thursday that the life and academic path of Professor Craig C. Mello should "an inspiring example for all those in the Region who dedicate themselves to the research" and "an example of the diversity of the Azorean emigrant communities."
Speaking to journalists at the end of the ceremony to award the Honorary Doctor insignia (Biochemistry and Biology) of the University of the Azores to Professor Craig C. Mello, Noble Prize for Medicine, Vasco Cordeiro was "proud to note on Professor Craig Mello's words a profound love for his land and roots."
For the Regional Secretary for the Economy, today's ceremony and the awarding of the Doctor Honoris Causa title should be "a source of satisfaction" as the decision taken by this higher education institution "also honours a man of Azorean descent, which had already been done by the Regional Assembly and the Azorean Government when awarded Professor Craig C. Mello an Azorean honour commendation."
