The Government of the Azores announced on Wednesday the approval of a public tender for the contract works for the construction of a cold store in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel island.
The decision was made known in Vila da Madalena on Wednesday when presenting the press release from the last meeting of the Council of the Government held on Pico last Tuesday.
As Vasco Cordeiro stated, with this investment, with an estimated budget of 5.6 million Euros, the Government aims to "strengthen the competitiveness of the fisheries sector by improving the quality of conservation and increased storage capacity of fishery products caught by the Azorean fleet."
The installation of this cold store will further "improve the commercial value of fish caught in the Azores sea by reinforcing the quality and export capacity of frozen fish," added the government official.
At the same meeting, the Government also decided to award the contract works for the construction of the auditorium and renewal of the south building of Domingos Rebelo Secondary School in the amount of 6 million Euros.
The Council of the Government also approved a Resolution authorising the commencement of the procedures deemed necessary for launching a public call for tender for the transport of goods between the islands of Flores and Corvo; another Resolution establishing the terms of Certification System of Training Entities was also approved at the meeting.
