The Regional Secretariat for the Economy, through the São Miguel Tourism Office, will move ahead with the renewal and development in the area of Furnas Hot Springs with the purpose of improving the visiting conditions of that area, which is one most visited spots on the island of São Miguel.
This intervention is part of the works that have been developed in the improvement and qualification of the main tourist sights of the Azores in order to ensure the best reception conditions in these spaces, both for tourists and local residents.
In this context, the renewal works will include the repair of the walls, installation of new signs, restoration of place name signs and the recovery of fountains.
In addition, the Government will also carry out interventions in the Courela Garden and install new safety signs, alerting the public for the volcanic specificities of the site and the precautions to be taken.
These interventions are intended to improve and change the scenery of that area already in the 2011 summer and the possibility of a landscape redevelopment of the entire area is currently under study.
