The Regional Secretariat for the Economy, through the company Portos dos Açores SA, will proceed with the acquisition of refrigerated containers for the transport of frozen and fresh products between the islands of Flores and Corvo, which represents an investment of 60,000 Euros.
According to the Regional Secretary for the Economy, this decision is intended to avoid the transport of goods between both islands in pallets, which has been done until now, thus "improving the transport conditions as well as the quality of the cargo delivered on Corvo."
This measure will reinforce the transport capacity of refrigerated cargo between both islands, which is currently of 400 Kilos, and "ensure that the transport of fresh and frozen products meets all safety conditions for consumers."
According to Vasco Cordeiro, "this is another measure intended to boost archipelago's economy by improving the freight transport conditions." In this case, this investment will significantly improve the supply of goods for Corvo as well as the potentialities in the transport of goods from Corvo to other places," said the Regional Secretary.
Vasco Cordeiro visited Corvo in the last two days, where he had the opportunity to become acquainted with the implementation of some of the investments the Regional Secretariat for the Economy is carrying out on that island, such as the construction of the control tower of the local aerodrome, the new fuel storage facilities, built in partnership with the local town hall, or the interventions at Porto da Casa. Regarding the latter, the Regional Secretariat is moving ahead with the improvement works of the boat parking area and is currently conducting a study on the expansion of the existing pier.
This investment, he added, "provides the island of Corvo with better conditions to promote its integration into the Region's economic space and improve its maritime accessibilities." These factors will allow Corvo to have better conditions for boosting its economy."
