Government to launch public call for tenders for freight service between Flores and Corvo, announces Vasco Cordeiro
The Government of the Azores will launch a public call for tenders for the operation of freight services between the islands of Flores and Corvo in the first quarter of 2012, announced the Regional Secretary for the Economy, Vasco Cordeiro, today.
This operation is currently taking place following a contract signed in 2000 which expires in 2012. The tender to be launched soon will award the concession of freight services between Flores and Corvo for a three-year period, extendable for another year.
According to the government official "this is another step in the construction of a maritime transport model for passengers and goods, which the Government has been implementing through several interventions carried out in regional ports. The construction of roll on/roll of ramps, new vessel to operate to operate in Central Group islands, the acquisition of pilot boats for the ports of São Jorge, Pico, Faial and Flores are some examples of the interventions carried out by the Government in recent years."
For Vasco Cordeiro, "it is evident that the Azorean Government has been carrying out a truly peaceful revolution in the regional maritime transport system which, in this case, will significantly improve the quality of the services rendered to Corvo islanders."
