Azorean nautical clubs "play an essential role for many youngsters across the archipelago, who are provided with the opportunity of involving in sports activities, thus promoting a useful occupation of their free time," stressed the Regional Secretary for the Economy in Lagoa this morning.
Luísa Schanderl spoke at the ceremony to lay the first stone of the new headquarters of the local nautical club at the S. Pedro port. The government official stressed the fact that this infrastructure "has been long awaited by the community" and it now becomes a reality thanks to the efforts undertaken by Lagoa City Hall which has continued to invest in community infrastructures despite the current financial constraints."
According to the Regional Secretary for the Economy "the laying of the first stone of the future headquarters of Lagoa Nautical Club not only improves the sports offer of Lagoa, but also the area of S. Pedro port as the works will also promote the renewal of this coastal area."
For the government official, "Lagoa should be proud of this infrastructure as this municipality continues to create conditions to better respond to the new responsibilities arising from its recent elevation to city status."
