The contract work for the construction of the new passenger terminal at the Madalena port has an estimated budget of eight million Euros.
The information was provided by the Regional Secretary for the Economy, Vasco Cordeiro, during the visit he made to the port infrastructure on Thursday afternoon.
The deadline for the submission of proposals for the construction of the passenger terminal at the Madalena port will end in four days and the contracts work will have an estimated completion period of one year, mentioned the Secretary.
For Vasco Cordeiro, the construction of the Madalena passenger terminal in conjunction with the ongoing works at the Horta port on Faial Island will “significantly improve” the operating conditions, the comfort and speed of maritime passenger transport between these two Central Group islands.
As he explained, the contract work not includes a passenger terminal, but also the construction of a pier equipped with roll-on/roll off ramps.
The Regional Secretary for the Economy also visited the works intended to reinforce the breakwater of the Madalena port, a contract work that was entrusted in December 2009.
According to Vasco Cordeiro, the visit made on Thursday afternoon also allowed to verify that this work, with a 12 million Euro budget, is being carried out in compliance with the stipulated deadlines.
With regard to its practical effects, the government official stressed that this work will primarily ensure the safety of the infrastructure, adding that the construction of the breakwater will reinforce the operating conditions of that port.
