The promotion of Azores Tourism has been distinguished with the 2011 Marketeer Award in the Tourism category. This award is promoted by Marketeer, a reference Portuguese publication in the field of communication, marketing and advertising, and aims to distinguish the work and strategy developed in the aforementioned areas during 2010.
The Azores destination is thus recognised in its different promotional campaigns undertaken in the domestic market during 2010, such as the projection of images in several buildings in the city of Lisbon during the organisation of BTL (Lisbon Tourism Market) or the strategy developed for the election of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal, whose final was held in the Region.
For the Regional Secretary for the Economy, Vasco Cordeiro, winning a prize “with high recognition among professionals of the sector, as well as with the participation of readers, represents the acknowledgement of the work carried out by all agents involved in the promotion of Azores Tourism, which has become a solid brand nationwide.”
In addition, “this distinction is also challenge since the recognition awarded to the promotion of Azores Tourism also entails greater responsibilities for meeting expectations at every moment.
Vasco Cordeiro pointed out that “this distinction was also due to private partners. The assertion of Azores Tourism and achievements of the Azores are also the result of their work and dedication.”
The Marketeer awards distinguish the works, campaigns and personalities in the area of marketing, advertising and communication in Portugal. In this year’s edition, two dozen categories were selected, including Tourism; Media, Communication and Advertising Agencies; Consumer Goods and Distribution/Retail; Arts and Culture, among others.
The list of nominees was selected based on the collection and analysis of information on the marketing activities/strategies developed by Marketeer itself during 2010 as well as on the online readers’ poll. After the closing of online voting, the results were analysed by the Council of Founders of Marketeer magazine, which is made up by Alberto da Ponte, Francisco Amaral, Hugo Correia Pires, José Villa de Freitas, Luís Filipe Reis, Miguel Sousa Otto, Pedro Pereira da Silva and Ricardo Florêncio.
